Transsmart's mind blowing superheroes

Sarah Pilasky op 3 maart 2021

March 8 is International Women’s Day (IWD). On this day, social, cultural, political and economic achievements of women are being celebrated globally.

Transsmart & equality

At Transsmart we actually don’t care if you’re a woman, a man or if you do not identify yourself as either of those genders. You’re human. You’re a person. You’re you. And that’s all that matters. We celebrate you. Does that make us feminist? Maybe. At least we completely support the International Women’s Day 2021 campaign theme, #ChooseToChallenge:

A challenged world is an alert world.
Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day.

We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality.
We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements.
Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.

From challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge.

Why we care

Besides celebrating lots of awesome stuff, IWD also points out the things that aren’t worth celebrating. Yet. In so many countries and so many companies, women are still not treated equal to men. Therefore, this day is also used to raise awareness and to accelerate gender equality.

At Transsmart, we choose to challenge inequality, bias and stereotypes. We’re all for an inclusive world. That’s why we’re working hard to make our organization more inclusive.

To show their commitment to this cause, some of our colleagues took a photo striking the #ChooseToChallenge pose:

How we're doing

So yes, we care. But no, we’re definitely not there yet. Here are some facts to show you we need to improve:

  • At Transsmart (The Netherlands and Belgium) only 25,5% of the employees is woman.
  • As much as 100% of Transsmart’s management team is men.
We are improving, but we can do better. We are very aware of that and are working hard to increase equality, inclusivity and also: diversity. We welcome all human beings at Transsmart. No matter what skin, hair or nail color, gender, identity, culture, religion, physical (dis)ability and whatever else makes you, you: we’d love to have you!

Besides that, if there’s one thing we can say with a 100% certainty, it is that women and men are paid equally at Transsmart. Everyone’s salary is based on education, experience and most of all on what you personally add to the company.

Mind blowing superheroes

There are endless amounts of subjects when it comes to inequality, bias and stereotypes. We as a company would like to point out two subjects we really care about:

Education & business opportunities
Women are still not present in business or politics in equal numbers. Of course that kind of made sense years and years ago, as women were not given the opportunity to go to university. Or get education at all, for that matter. Back then, men claimed themselves to be the humans with brains, the ones being capable of working, thinking and having opinions. And women were there to take care of them, to procreate and not to ask questions. Nothing more, nothing less.

Luckily for us, that time has passed. Yay! Women (in the countries we operate in, that is) have been offered the same education as men for many years now. And guess what, their brains are super smart! They can even work and have a family at the same time. Or choose not to have a family. They can even become CEO’s of the world’s largest organizations. Isn’t that mind blowing? They’re like superheroes!

Equal pay
In many cases, women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts. Why? We can’t even think of a logical answer to that. Here’s something to think about: what do you think would’ve happened if it were the other way around from the beginning? Would this gap then still be the case in 2021, or would it have been fixed many years ago?

All kidding aside, the fact that in our part of the world women have the same rights, and many of them make the same money and can make the same choices as men, is really worth celebrating!

Colleagues about Transsmart & equality

“We’re in software and logistics. Not really an industry that has been promoted to women much. So I get why we’re still with more men, but it would be great to have more women around.” - Male

“I feel like all colleagues, men and women, treat me as their equal.” – Female

“I think we would benefit greatly from having a more diverse team. Meaning more women, but also people of diverse cultures and religions. Everyone has a different background and therefore their own way of thinking. This can challenge the ordinary, which is good for every team and every company” - Female

“I feel very valued for the work that I do. I’ve never noticed anyone treating me differently because I’m not a man.” - Female

“I think Transsmart is a great employer, no matter your identity. It’s an open minded organization that welcomes anyone. I like being part of the team.” - Male

Thanks ladies!

A very big shout out to all the women at Transsmart! Thanks for working with us. Thanks for being able to work in this mainly ‘male environment’. Thanks for being great at your jobs. Thanks for being you. You’re all awesome!
